Show Plan.

Concept artists show their work digitally or in a book and how they developed it.

If i had all the resources in the world i would put my FMP into a fish tank so people can look at my concept through the water.

My target audience would be graphic artists/designers and game company's.

I am going to invite my family and friends.
I can advertise my work on facebook, twitter and instagram.

Evaluation:

The theme of my project is an underwater fantasy landscape concept drawing, I want to do this because I really like underwater landscapes as well as the genre of fantasy so I wanted to join them together and make a landscape.
I started with the idea of a fantasy underwater landscape and then did initial drawings related to my idea and developed them to fit into a underwater fantasy world, I also began to expand the idea and I decided to add an underwater demon so I wondered how to add this into my idea and I started to think of a narrative scene to go with my concept piece, the problems I encountered with this demon idea were trying to figure out how to add it to my concept piece then I started an initial drawing of a vortex and the reason behind a “vortex” is so the demon can cross over to the underwater realm but I needed a native species living in the underwater realm, this is when I began my research into artists I found and I had a look into their work and decided to add mermaids as that native species after that I started more initial drawings on mermaids and developed all my ideas and started my FMP background and make all the lights and the gloom in the sea, in addition I worked on my demon and made him battle-scarred and beaten.
Some of the reference material I have was from the internet and I had someone pose for dynamic poses for my demon character and the references I used for my artist research were images of underwater landscapes and I also used images of demonic warriors for my demon.

This helped because I can use traits from the warrior to my demon and the references for the artists helped my greatly! In my research because I can say what the image makes me feel and where the vocal points are and to talk about dominant and sub dominant forms, this made me change where all the objects are in my piece and place them in a more narrative scene and to show dominant and sub dominant forms.

The materials I used for my FMP are Photoshop and Pencil and paper, I used pencil and paper to start off because I needed to do initial drawings and gain an idea for what I should add in my final project after I got all my initial and developed drawings, I used Photoshop to colour and texture my work with lighting, the techniques I used a paint brush most of the time while doing my final piece in Photoshop.

I am happy with my final piece because it is the best I could do and I spent a lot of time on it also I used a lot of techniques I learn so far, I am proud of the background the most because I put a lot of work into it and if I could change anything I would change the mermaids face a tiny bit so I can make them more girly.

I gave this project my best and I would not do anything differently, I had a lot of ideas but this one is my favourite, two problems were how to put the demon into my project and what species I should use in my project and I solved these by looking at different artists work to see what species I should use and I solved the demon problem by asking my peers on what I should do so I made the vortex so he can come through the void into the mermaids world.

FMP Piece.

This is my FMP! The changes i have made since the last time i updated this are that i added scales on the mermaids tails and tinkered with the lighting.

FMP, Looking at the demon.

This my FMP so far, i have added alot of new things that i have gone over in earlier updates such as seaweed, ruin extensions, mermaids (developed) and stained glass but now i am going to tell you how i made the demon stand out.

This is my demon so far, i added a white outline around the demon to gain the attention of the viewer.

This was my colour settings for my demon outline, I used the white because it stands out from the blue background.

These were the brush and opacity settings i used for the demon outline.

FMP Seaweed added.

This is my updated FMP where i have added the fantasy seaweed in the bottom.

These are my software experiments where i added the seaweed to my FMP in different opacity settings an size to show prospective.

Fish Scales.

This is the fish scales i did in Photoshop, the problems i encountered were getting the colours to blend with eachother.

These are the colour settings i used for my fish scales.

These are the brush settings i used for the fish scales.

Pillar Update.

This is my pillar, I am going to use this in my project to hold up the ruin on the right.

Here i have painted it blue and going to use this for my FMP project.

Here i have developed the pillar more, i have used the dissolve brush and added darker shades near the edges.

FMP Update Building on the right.

I am working on the ruin on the right and i have decided to add pillars to hold up the ceiling of the ruin.

Here i used the pen tool to get all the curves and straight lines on the pillar.

These are some examples of where i used the pen tool on my pillar.

I have added and darker shades of blue on the top of the pillars and blurred shades of blue and i have added another platform where the pillars stand.

FMP Major Update.

This is my new design of my FMP, my image is to have two buildings on either side with mermaids cowering behind both ruins looking in curiosity.

Here I have extended the sides of the ruin and after that I want to block in the middle under the window of the ruin.
How I have done this is that i used a lighter shade of blue on the right side of the ruin because of the light shining from the top to the middle after that I added a darker shade near the bottom as the ruin starts to fall into the gloom.

This is the colour settings for the lighter shade of blue i used on the right side of my ruin from the top to the middle on the right.

On the left side of the ruin I have used a darker shade of blue similar to the bottom the the right side, but I covered the left side because the sun does not cover that side of the ruin.

Now I have blocked out the middle of the ruin and I have used high and low lighting in the middle.

FMP Update Developed Building.

Here we have the ruin I have done without supports to hold the window up, the problems i encountered here were how can i hang up the window frame, the solution for this was, i looked at buildings on the internet and added frames to hold up the window.

This is the ruin with initial supports to hold the window in place.

I have added stained glass in the window to resemble what was left of the ruin.

Artist Research #4, Artist Research #5

This is someones interpretation of jenny greenteeth.

This is jenny greenteeth, Brian Froud made jenny greenteeth, the images is focusing on the faire it self, in the image depicts that the faire will drag their victims to their death.

In picture Brian Froud uses a technique called wet on wet to show to hair in the water in picture 2, in the first picture jenny greenteeth to approaching a child from a river and ready to strike and take him/her away, the meaning behind this is to scare children to make them behave, the image wants the viewer to focus on the faire to install the fear into the child looking at the hideous creature.
One thing i like about Brian Froud's faire's is that he does not care if they look nice, its about sending the message across, i uploaded this to my blog because i am using mermaids in my FMP so i am researching into mermaids.

I have chose to research this because i am using ruins in my FMP piece and the artist who has made this is Juhani Jokinen, in this piece i see a man exploring  an icy cavern and looking at a ruin that will lead into something unknown waiting to be explored, the software the artist has used Photoshop with high lights and low lights, the lighting in this draws the viewers eye towards the big door in the ice wall, the artist has used vocal points, the vocal point in this piece is the big door also the main colour of the piece is blue and blue is a cold colour to give the viewer a cold feeling while looking at this piece.
One thing i like about this piece is the feel it gives the viewer, the feeling of curiosity and adventure, this piece relates to my project because in my FMP i am using ruins and buildings unexplored by man,

FMP Update BUILDING!

This is the my FMP with a underwater ruin, i added this to involve a narrative scene to my piece.

To start off i made some simple shapes like: circles and squares to give me a basic idea where the middle of the structure is going be.

I added the main structure to my piece and painting it with different shades of blue both high and low lighting and adding the light from the sun over the edge of the ruin.

Scene Experiments and Software Experiments.

I have done experiments of different narrative scenes for my FMP project, the dominant form in most of these scenes is the rocky cliff and the sub dominant is the other rocky cliff, except for scene 3 because the dominant form in that scene is the ruin.
lets take a look at them in more depth:

                    Scene 1:

Here we have our first scene, in this scene, the vortex opened in open waters but close to the demonic vortex there is an opening with mermaids peering out from behind the rocks.

Scene 2:

In scene 2 we have the vortex opening within a trench, as the mermaids try to flee for their life also as the vortex emerges tit scares the fish and makes them swim away into the gloom.

Scene 3:

In this scene the mermaids are hiding behind an underwater ruin as the vortex emerges into their world.

Scene 4:

Finally, in scene 4 the camera is looking down past a reef into open water and the mermaids are peaking over the rocks to look if anything can threaten them.

This is one of my software experiments, the initial look of my seaweed, portal and bubble.

Artist Research #3

I like this art piece because as the face fades into the water background, it makes me think that its looking into her mind.
The materials used are Photoshop, the lighting in this piece is very good, because the light focuses on the middle of her face, the colour used in this piece

Her face is underwater also i think the artist wants the viewer to see the face and think about the sea and how calm and tranquil as the sea, the artist wants the viewer to focus on the face to immerse in the mind of the artist.
My favourite part of this piece is the faded face to give the impression she is lost and alone.
The artist is unknown.

FMP update in depth.

This update i added the multicolour fishes to my piece, the reason i added them was to give the piece a bit more going on into it.

This is were i am putting the school of fish slightly above the vortex and have them in the position like they are swimming away from the vortex.

I dropped the "fishes" layer near the bottom because this makes the fishes fade into the background as seen here

This makes the fish fade into the background to show them swimming away into the gloom.
