Today i did some experiments with the method i used on the turtle (Blocking out the colours)

The bottom one was my more developed painting, by doing this i was messing around with different opacity levels, the parts i got wrong was mainly the shape of the fish.

2 Weeks of Easter .

First week of Easter: Artist Research.
Update my blog with some drawings related to my project.
Start my artist interpretation.
Go through my feedback sheet and see if i can improve to achieve a merit.

Second week of Easter: Finish Artist interpretation.
Go to the Sealife centre to do observational drawings.
Research fantasy landscapes an their artists.

These are are different colour schemes for my portal in my FMP, to change the colours i used the hotkey CTRL+U to bring up the Hue and Saturation menu while in this menu you can change the Hue, Saturation and Lightness, my first colour scheme was pure red, orange and yellow but then i decided to play around with different colour combos to make the portal blend with the background colour.
The portal is going to be a rip in between worlds for my demon creature to try and destroy the sirens home.

This is my FMP more developed, the way ive developed it is by adding a portal and bubbles coming from it, the way i did the portal was making a circler structure with bright colours like red and orange and liquefying it.

The portal is a gateway from another world and a demon horde with a lust for blood is trying get through and wipe out the naga sirens race and claim their home as theirs.
For example if this was in a game the sirens would have to push the demons back and shut down the portal.

Turtle: Blocking out the colour and environment decision.

this is in development but i started painting in Photoshop in a different way so far i have been blocking out the colors, in this painting i have tried a different style of drawing/painting on Photoshop, this is a experiment to see if i prefer or do better using this method.

I've realised that as a result of painting this turtle and the scanning experiments i would like to set my scene underwater, i like underwater because i find it calm and tranquil and adding this evil to it will give the viewer a jump and a contrast between calm and fear.

This is my underwater demon, it is still under development, what i did so far was i started blocking it out so i got a basic understanding of the body shape i wish to use and kept going over it to make it more and more like i wanted it and give it that feral influence.

These are the different colour schemes i come up with for my demons head, i did this to see which colour combo would go better with the blue ocean i took ideas from Hieronymus Bosch and the way he colours his own paintings, so i added my own tinge on my demons head.
To make these different colour schemes i copy and pasted the layer the head was on and duplicated it to give me 8 copies after that I opened the Hue+Saturation menu, while in this menu I can mess around and change the colouring of everything on this layer also i can alter the lighting and darkness of every little bit of the head.

This is Adams face, i also used this as reference in my drawings to help me make the face shape at different angles and use this to warp/ morph into different demonic faces to aid my final project.
I can take ideas from Hieronymus Bosch's work to use simple everyday parts of the face to change into something demoic.

This is a experiment to create a demonic face.

My friend and I scanned our faces to create distorted portraits. In our model based work, this is good for me as i am doing drawings of humanoid figures, this gave me a good idea for my demons face, I like the distortion of my squashed face also the light effect.
I can now put my face into Photoshop and warp my facial features around to make something different.

Initial drawings:

These are my initial drawings: Mermaid tail, Sea fan, fish and a underwater ruin.
I chose these things because i want to use these in my FMP.

What have I done? I have warped and changed my scanned in face in horrific ways.

Why did i do it? I did this to change my face in demonic ways to give myself a better idea of how iam going to developed demon.

How did i do it? I changed and messed around with some filters for example on face 6, I liquefied it
and spun it round and round so it looks like demons coming out of a vortex.

How am i going to develop it? I am going to use the facial features and add them to my demon.

Ive Been working on mouths and eyes in Photoshop, like Hieronymus Bosch i wanted to use something everyday to change into something demonic, I drew these mouths and eyes and attempted to make them look like they have pestilence and give them a demonic look i also use this to practise my Photoshop skills in painting.

I chose these colours because red can resemble gore and yellow is decay i mixed my colours on the Photoshop palette. To mix colours on Photoshop I used a 50% flow on my brush, I put a lighter shade and a darker shade together overlapping slightly and i used the dropper tool to take the colour in the mix.
I Blended these particular colours to give the lips a wet look to show that the demons has puss and saliva dribbling out of his mouth with a lust for blood and death, i also blended to produced shadow and depth.
I used a shade of white on the lips to give a glittering shine to his lips.

I want my Character as a demon because i think it would quite interesting to see underwater aspects and demons coming together to make a water demon, as demons are associated with fire it would be different to see a water demon, The huge mouth indicates that he has a lust for human flesh and i want this to be a feature for my demon character.

These are my initial sketches of demons and demon feature ideas that i will work on in the future, i will now look at existing demons in art work.

This is the work Hieronymus Bosch, his painting Garden Of Earthly Delights shows many variety of demons, here are a few that i liked:

What i like about these painting is that they show a alternative view of a demon, he takes ordinary creatures and turns them into mutilated versions of themselves, I will try this out as an experiment.

This is the start of my FMP, Proposal and plan.

SECTION ONE – The Final Major Project (guide 100 words)
I am doing a fantasy underwater landscape concept drawing, this can be used to show a mood and style of an underwater adventure game, I have been doing mind maps of underwater aspects like what sort of creatures will be inhabiting the surface of the ocean, I am using Photoshop for my landscape the previous projects I used Photoshop for were my Spinosaurus and my twisted tales final piece by doing these things I understand how to use the software and all of its tools and aspects at an intermediate level, I can use Photoshop to tap into my inner creativity, I feel I have more control and can achieve my ideas much more efficiently using Photoshop then traditional drawing methods.

SECTION TWO – Influences, Research, Sources and Ideas (guide 100 words)
I will do research on fantasy art and how it can be included in an underwater environment and I will look at artists that draw aquascapes, I will look at different styles because If I look at just one, that one artists has the same “personality” however by looking at a variety of artists I can see a lot more techniques.
The Idea I have in mind is that the camera will be looking at a diagonal angle from the sea bed to the surface, the research I will do in the future will be about fantasy plants in the water some of the research came from the wiki but most of it came from my own knowledge.
My influences are that I love the sea and fantasy art so I thought to myself I’ll put them together, I had a look at some pictures and gained an idea of the sort of thing to try and strive for.
I will have a demon character, so I will research different demons from different game like devil may cry also I will look at traditional demons and traditional art forms.

SECTION THREE – Techniques, Processes and Timetables (guide 150 words)
I will be using Photoshop to create my work using various tools from the interface primarily I will be using the gradient tool to slide colour along a set path also I will be using the pen tool, the pen tool is very important because it can curve the colour and curve the plants in the water which gives it that underwater feel also I use the paint brush tool, I will use the soft brush to give it that underwater blur and blend the colours together. I will use my knowledge of composition and perspective to plan out my work. Ill is using sketching to do observational drawings and to sketch out my ideas. I will be using the drawings for reference for my Photoshop drawings. See separate plan for timetable.

SECTION FOUR – Method of Evaluation (guide 150 words)
I will use my blog as a diary and a sketchbook where I will annotate my work and my development throughout the project, I will also take part in group critiques where we tell each other how we all can do better, writing the evaluations shows what I’ve done so far and uploading my work to the blog so my lecturers can mark my work also asking my tutors to come over and evaluate my work to see what I’ve done right and what I need to work on.
